The other day my pc shut itself off while i was playing a game and a BSOD came up with a ntsf.sys error. But it restarted normally and everything seemed good when all of a sudden something comes up saying that my pc had just recovered from a very serious error i needed to run chkdsk. Then immediatly i tried to do that and i got the BSOD once again. This time when I tried to restart it it started an endless loop, it would get as far as the black windows screen and start again, so then I tried safe mode and it would only load as far as mup.sys and then it would restart, in fact I tried every option on the boot page to no avail it just kept either restarting or coming up with the BSOD.It would only go into the recovery console, when it checked the disk for surface errors everything was good but I was not able to do anything but do a full recovery of my hd in order to get pc up and running. In anycase I did that and I lost all of my files and programs because I have never done a backup and i dont even really know how its done.
Well I finally solved this problem I had to order the replacement installation disks from HP and when I did that I was able to reinstall my operating system and it replaced the recovery partition. The only thing is that when I ordered the disks from HP they were supposed to restore my pc back to the same conition as when it first shipped, which for the most part it did except for the fact that for some reason the os that was sent to me was media center 2005 which is all fine and great except that before my pc had xp pro with the media center embedded in it when I called HP they told me that that was impossible because my system was only shipped with media center os and that I must have installed xp pro on it subsequentially. I told them no that I had not and I asked them wouldnt that have made the media center disappear with the os that was replacing it they said yes that I would lose the media center by installing xp pro so then they told me that I must be mistaken about having had xp pro. I had this pc since 2006 I think I am very sure what os was installed and I know it came from the factory that way because when I had to reinstall using the recovery partition that is what was reinstalled. Very weird so I got my pc back but the os is not the same as it was before and I really dont know what to do since they said they never shipped any like that Whatever I know what I am talking about.
