  1. Matrox Codec

You can use any VFW program and you don’t need to install Matrox video hardware. This pack provides you with multiple VFW software codecs to be used on both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems: Matrox DV/DVCAM, Matrox DVCPRO, Matrox DVCPRO50, Matrox DVCPRO HD, Matrox MPEG-2 I-frame in SD and HD resolutions, with or without alpha, Matrox Uncompressed in SD and HD resolutions, with or without alpha, Matrox Offline HD (playback only) and Matrox M-JPEG and HDV (playback only). The latest releases of Matrox Codecs offer support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. Due to this virtual item, you can use codecs that would normally be available only on systems that were equipped with Matrox video hardware (Matrox Axio).

Matrox Codecs includes the Matrox DVCPRO HD codec and the '+ Alpha' versions of the Matrox uncompressed and MPEG-2 I-frame codecs. Additionally, this codecs pack offers you the possibility of playing back Matrox MPEG-2 I-frame.avi files in all HD formats (720p, 1440x1080i/p, and full-size 1080i/p). When you install Matrox Codecs to your computer, you are advised to remove any previous version of this software toolkit. Otherwise, installation is simple and straightforward, like in most media applications. Matrox Codecs is a utility bringing you significant benefits. It actually replaces a piece of hardware and it allows you to view Matrox AVI files with any VFW program. Power users will definitely find it helpful.

A beta driver for Windows 8 available which includes VFW codecs is MXO2 Mtx.utils 7.1.0.1294.

This is getting crazy. Windows 8 is more then a year on the market and windows 8.1 is out now. I do not want to install the full driver.

Are you really serious??? After more then one year after the release of Windows 8 your company is not even working on a official drivers and VFW codecs??? I my god did I regret that a few years ago I was so in love with Matrox products and in my opinion the fantastic Matrox codec (with alpha channel). First with RTX 100 then RTX2 and then MXO2 mini with max. I decided to render all my material out to your codec and used it as my number one format for archiving all my material.

I mean lots of terabytes! Especially when Matrox decided release the VFW codec for free to use on any PC. This is a nightmare for me know!!! I will need to covert all my material to a different codec.

I m so fed up with Matrox. Please note that I will never ever ever buy something from Matrox again. This is like I was working on a mac and Apple decided to drop support for ProRes for the latest operating system. No serious company will ever do that off course. We hope to get updates soon.

As a test, can you try running the Mtxutils.exe or VFW codec software in Windows 7 Compatibility mode? To change compatibility settings manually for a program, right-click the icon for the program, click Properties, and then click the Compatibility tab. To confirm, you mentioned 7.1 drivers did not work?

The 7.1 drivers installed here with Windows 8 was successfully launched with Adobe Premiere CC. Premiere CC is hanging at exporteravi.prm.

Uninstall VFW and Premiere CC runs fine. 7.1 drivers do install but export to Matrox avi gives also error message. 'Incompatible video codec found in the preset. Set up your editing computer using Windows 7 (which should still be available for purchase in your area). There is no advantage to going to Windows 8. Andrew filmfabrique (MXO2 Mini with MAX) Joined: 04 Jul 2005 Posts: 60 Posted: Fri Oct 25, 2013 6:55 pm Post subject: Seriously. No advantage?

Just kidding right Windows 8 is a lot lot faster on a brand new machine. It takes better advantage of the SSD. Start up time 35 seconds and ready to edit. The performance monitor is also lot improved! And since 8.1 if you do not like the tiles.

Just boot to the desktop. It is just a whole lot smoother as 7. I also have 2 windows 7 workstations. Creative cloud with Premiere CC and after effects CC is like a rocket on this new laptop.

With 16 GB RAM and core I7 4700HQ and a Geforce 780M it is unbelievable and beats my workstations. This video cards supports 3 monitors on my laptop. A full HD 3D screen with nvidea glasses. A 30 inch DELL 2560X16000 and a full HD led 50 inch display as video output pannel via HDMI. I can even edit 3D in realtime on it with a pear of nvidea 3D vision 2 glasses in Edius. I do not need Matrox hardware on this laptop.

Rendering to h264 is even faster then with Matrox max. I just like to be able to playback all my stored files in Matrox codec. Like I said this is a couple of terabytes.

But i just did another test and Matrox brings the whole CCS experience down to the ground. Dynamik link between aftereffects is not Matrox friend. Stuttering, hanging, etc etc. When, i remove the driver it works as it should. Premiere starts in 10 seconds and after effects 5 with dynamick link. No more Matrox on this machine. I do not need it.

I did start to render out to the broadcast avid DNxHD MXF OP1A codec with wunderful results for editing. If an official driver comes out in time before al my videofiles are rendered. It wil be the last time I will give Matrox a try. But maybe from now on it is better to go forward futureproof and never look back. (To be honest, I was aware oof the faster workings under the hood with Win 8 ) Win 7 seems to be where it is at, though, for video - not that I have needed to search.

I'm pretty happy here.
