If you perform a Repair on the Office 2007 installation, all of the file associations (e.g. DOC/DOCX, XLS/XLLSX,.PPT/PPTX, etc) should be reasserted to Office 2007 applications. Click Start or tap the Windows key and type p rograms but do not hit. Select Programs and Features from the Control Panel section in the list above. When the Programs and Features window opens and has finished populating its list, scroll down and select your Microsoft Office 2007 installation. It still will not add the program to your default list or solve any other issues of that matter, but if end results are what you are after, then this will get you there.
